Cilycwm is a small, scattered community of mainly hill farms in Wales, to the north-west of the Brecon Beacons, near Llandovery. As part of the various European initiatives aimed at the regeneration of areas like ours, we have formed a community association which is seeking ways of improving our community. Our approach is partly economic, trying to offset the deterioration in upland agriculture, but also social. Access to the Internet for our community is one improvement which can have both social and economic benefits for our community.
So this page is the very beginning of our project to put the Cilycwm community on the Internet. Visitors to the site will be able to see:
- photographs of the amazingly beautiful landscape around here with information on how to get here and what to see, where to stay, etc;
- read about our heritage and history (Cilycwm was a significant drovers' village);
- get to know us as a community
- get involved in a possible festival intended to celebrate living here;
- see how you can help us.
Cilycwm Community Association has responded to the challenge of creating a website which will reach the "World Wide Web" to note what is happening in this Valley. We hope this website will support the young people of the area in their aim to find work locally rather than having to leave the area in search of employment.
The community has asked the Community Association to look into various other projects like improving structures within the villages; establishing a Community Centre; protecting the beautiful environment that surrounds us and creating a heritage trail which notes the historical and interesting features within the Valley.
