Quad bike thefts in the area.

Hi All

We’ve had another QUAD bike theft on Friday from the Llanwrda area and we are likely to have more attempts. Please be aware and check your security. Can you also please report suspicious vehicles/activity so we can follow these up to make sure they are not in the area committing crime.

Many thanks for your help

Crime prevention advice for quad bikes

The National Farmers Union 2014 data puts quad bikes as the one number item stolen in the rural community. They are portable, with little or no security and few identifiable features. New quad bikes are expensive to buy therefore stolen ones offer a good return for the thief.

The below can assist you to protect your quad bike.

• Secure and immobilise the vehicle when not in use.

• Consider fitting an immobiliser to the vehicle such as intelligent band www.intelligentband.co.uk and a tracker device.

• Lock them in secure buildings and consider using ground anchor plates and chains for extra security.

• Avoid leaving machines in open view when not in use.

• There are a number of marking kits on the market making your vehicle very identifiable and therefore less desirable to a thief. If the quad is stolen should it be recovered it can be returned to you.

Cyngor atal trosedd ar gyfer beiciau cwad

Yn ôl data o 2014 gan Undeb Cenedlaethol yr Amaethwyr, beiciau cwad sy’n cael eu dwyn fwyaf mewn cymunedau gwledig. Maen nhw’n gludadwy heb fawr neu ddim diogelwch, ac ychydig iawn o nodweddion adnabyddadwy. Mae beiciau cwad newydd yn ddrud i’w prynu, felly mae rhai sy’n cael eu dwyn yn cynnig elw da i’r lleidr.

Gall yr isod eich helpu i ddiogelu eich beic cwad.

• Diogelwch a llonyddwch y cerbyd pan nad yw’n cael ei ddefnyddio.

• Ystyriwch osod llonyddwr i’r cerbyd megis Intelligent Band www.intelligentband.co.uk a dyfais olrhain.

• Cadwch nhw dan glo mewn adeiladau diogel ac ystyriwch ddefnyddio cadwyni a phlatiau angor tir ar gyfer diogelwch ychwanegol.

• Peidiwch â gadael peiriannau mewn golwg pan nad ydynt yn cael eu defnyddio.

• Mae nifer o becynnau marcio ar y farchnad sy’n gwneud eich cerbyd yn llai adnabyddadwy, a gan hynny, yn llai deniadol ar gyfer lleidr. Os yw’r cwad yn cael ei ddwyn, gellir ei ddychwelyd atoch os yw’n cael ei adennill.

Off to America in the morning / Gadael Cymru

In relation to Marie’s family history enquiry (Latest Comments section), a newspaper report in Welsh on Rhandirmwyn from “Y Tyst Cymreig” on the 16th of April, 1869, states that 40 people are leaving the area for America this month (most probably Pennsylvania).

Possibly Marie’s family were part of this exodus from the Blaenau Tywi valley.

The cost of the internet for the website is being paid.

Chairman’s report – Roger Hemmings

Sub Groups

  • History Group. The History Project “Names in the landscape” being completed Dafydd hopes the next project – perhaps to be entitled “People in the Landscape” will commence in the foreseeable future after funding has been obtained. A variety of ideas as to the content and initial display of material collected were discussed..

The meeting was reminded that there is a pdf of the “Names in the landscape” online.

  • Website. Chris congratulated Dafydd for his work in replying to all historical enquiries which came through the website most of which required extensive research. Ann thanked Chris for the work he does free of charge for the Cilycwm Community Council.

Dafydd raised the question of access to the facebook page. Only the facebook members are able to contribute to the page and answer any requests sent in.

  • Finance.  The accounts independently examined by Peter Green were circulated for inspection and comment. The majority of the funds are ringed fenced for the History Group’s next project. The CCA paid for the new gate for the field.

There are not sufficient funds in the account to offer £1000 to support the Mentor Cilycwm

Committee with their initial legal costs. Keeping the CCA active will, it is hoped, provide

some support by its continuation.

Discussion of the CCA

The CCA will remain operational for the foreseeable future running the website www.cilycwm.com and supporting the History group.

Fay commented that the CCA has not carried out any other community projects in recent years. Eventually funds will be needed for insurance, website, administration and community support costs.

July 7th is the date for the Community fete in the Field to be run by the Field Committee.

Election of Offices has not yet taken place.

We welcome anyone to put their names forward for one of the posts.  At present there is no Company Secretary.
