Don’t be fooled by a scam email like this promising a council tax refund.
Some residents in Carmarthenshire have received this very convincing email telling them that they’re due a council tax reduction running into hundreds of pounds.
But there is no refund – it is a scam to con people out of money and steal their bank account details.
Delete it straight away and block the sender, do not reply or click on any links, and do not give out any personal information, particularly bank account or debit or credit card details.
The council will never phone, text or email you to ask for a payment to release a council tax refund or ask for personal bank details. If you have overpaid your council tax and can claim a refund, we will write to you.
