Capel y Groes Project

There was a very well attended Public Meeting in Capel y Groes on 2nd February 2016. At the meeting, attended by more than forty locals, unanimous support was given to the Cilycwm Community Hall Group and their plan to investigate the possibility of converting Capel y Groes for greater community benefit.

The Members of the Capel y Groes Congregation were present and Audrey Price spoke to the audience explaining the wish of the Congregation to share Capel y Groes with the wider community.

A new page has been created on the main website menu bar which will be used to keep you updated on progress.

There are more photos in the photo gallery, in the Capel y Groes Project menu.

The old infant school in Brynaman is a thriving community centre, with a cafe, library and a computer suite. The doctor’s surgery is also there and the Post Office is all set up to open there very soon. It is run by a manager, but it is dependant on volunteers. There is a cook and assistant, who are paid, along with a part time cleaner. There is a luncheon club there every Monday for the over 50’s, which has been very popular for years. It also has yoga classes, two art groups and several computer courses. It is the hub of the village and most of the elderly people of the village would be at a loss if it closed.

It would be worth someone from Cilycwm dropping in to see how lively the place is.

Good idea in principle & I’m sure funding is available to effect conversions &c.
However the “rub” is with running costs, volunteers to run it, clean it, & stay with the project in the years to come. A “big ask”.
