One Response to Public Meeting at Royal Oak – Tuesday 28th 2pm-4pm

  1. Chris Robertson says:

I went to the meeting and this is my view of what we were told, it does not reflect the views of the Cilycwm Community Association.
Whilst many of the relevant permissions and discussions have taken place planning permission has not yet been sought.
The scheme involves a weir built on the river upstream of the fish dam above the RSPB reserve at Dinas. The water would be piped underground to a station lower down the valley, upstream of the new bridge. The electricity generated would be connected underground into the cable that runs down the centre of the road from the generators at Llyn Brianne. The flow in the river through the gorge at Dinas would never be less than the current summer flow. The water being returned to the river would be at the same temperature but would be oxygenated. We were told that within a year of construction it would be virtually impossible to tell where the pipe was; the only visible evidence would be the weir, which is not in an easily accessible area, and the power station building, a two-storey structure, built of stone under a slate roof. They have obtained permission to use the Forestry road above Rhandirmwyn so most of the construction traffic would use that route.
There was some discussion about community benefit but this was an area yet to be addressed.
There will be another opportunity to talk to the team behind the project at a meeting of the Rhandirmwyn Community Association on the 6th of August, at a venue yet to be decided. If you have any questions I will try to answer or pass on to the design team.

    Chris Robertson
