A community group of volunteers were formed to carry out the research involved with the Blaenau Tywi Farms and Field names project, which has now been completed.  Information collected over the past 3 years include field names, extracts from Estate records, tragic accidents and community life in general as recorded in press reports from the Victorian period.  It noted various historical influences on the area from Cairns, a Stone Circle from a pre Christian age; Roman remains in the area; the Middle Ages connections with Strata Florida; the Lead Mines of Rhandir-mwyn; the Methodist upheaval; Rebecca’s Riots; afforestation in the hills; the struggle to save the Red Kite; the creation of Llyn Brianne and many other events which have had an impact on the Blaenau Tywi valley.  There is also the valuable collection of images of the farms and cottages of the area which have been collected during this period.

It is also worth remembering that the Grid Reference Number of each individual farm is shown on the site, which in an emergency could be essential.  We strongly recommend that this number is noted and is stored in safe location so that it can be passed to the emergency services.

Ffurfiwyd grŵp o wirfoddolwyr i weithredu’r prosiect “Enwau Caeau a Ffermydd Blaenau Tywi” sydd bellach wedi eu gwblhau.

Mae’r gwybodaeth a gasglwyd yn ystod y tair blynedd diwethaf yn cynnwys enwau caeau, dyfyniadau o gofnodion Ystâd, damweiniau trasig a bywyd cymunedol yn gyffredinol fel y cofnodwyd mewn adroddiadau yn y wasg o’r cyfnod Fictoraidd.  Nodwyd nifer o ddylanwadau hanesyddol o’r ardal gan gynnwys Cairns, hefyd Cylch Cerrig o oedran cyn Cristnogol; olion Rhufeinig yr ardal; cysylltiadau Canol Oesoedd gydag Ystrad Fflur; y Pyllau Plwm yn Rhandir-mwyn; y cynnwrf Methodistaidd; terfysgoedd Rebecca; coedwigo yn y bryniau; y frwydr i achub y Barcud Coch; Llyn Brianne a llawer o ddigwyddiadau eraill sydd wedi gadael eu h’ol ar fro Blaenau Tywi.  Mae yna hefyd gasgliad gwerthfawr o ddelweddau o ffermydd a bythynnod yr ardal sydd wedi cael eu casglu yn ystod y cyfnod hwn.

Sylwer hefyd fod un o’r pethau mwyaf pwysig a nodwyd oedd y Rhid Cyfeirnod Grid i bob fferm (Grid Reference Number).  Mewn argyfwng fe all gwybod y rhif yma fod yn bwysig iawn.

Bellach, gellir gweld y gwaith hwn ar ffurf newydd sef wrth fynd ar-lein.  Mae’r wefan yn cynnwys deunydd na chafwyd eu chynnwys yn y llyfr.  Y gobaith ydy i fwydo gwybodaeth mwy newydd i mewn i’r safle wrth i’r wybodaeth hyn ddod i law.

I cael mynediad i’r wefan, ewch i:-   http://www.hanesblaenautywi.co.uk/
